Dry and wet road test at Firebird

With only two weeks to go before the opening round of the 1999 FedEx Championship Series at the Grand Prix of Miami, Player's team drivers Greg Moore and Patrick Carpentier concluded today their pre-season testing at the 1.1-mile Firebird West road racing track.

Moore was very pleased with this final test. "Unfortunately, my car was plagued with an oil leak on Wednesday, which restricted our track time," Moore mentioned following his final session today. "The team quickly fixed the hitch and we were able try new set-ups."

Both drivers completed close to 80 laps each on a dry track. During the afternoon session, tank trucks watered the circuit to create wet racing conditions enabling the Player's team to work on rain set-ups.

"Track conditions were very slippery at the end of the day," Moore said. "We were able to set up the cars for different driving conditions we often face on urban tracks. Overall, we are very satisfied with our pre-season test sessions. We mainly tested on road racing circuits during that time and we feel we are ready for the upcoming season."

Carpentier was happy with his final day at the track. "The Player's team remedied the electrical problems encountered on my car during yesterday's session and I was able to run more laps today," he said. "It was the first time that the team tested the back-up cars and we were able to make several adjustments to them."

According to Canadian Steve Challis, the engineer for Greg Moore, those kinds of problems are part of the game when you sort brand new cars. "When you put those cars on the track for the first time, things will happen. That's why we go out and test to make sure we find solutions to be ready for the racing season."

This pre-season test was the last for the Player's team before the start of the new season on March 21 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex 1.5-mile oval track. Greg Moore is the defending polesitter and the Player's team is looking to add to the 13 poles they have won since the first one by Jacques Villeneuve at Elkhart Lake in 1995.
