Juan is "getting the hang of it"

West Allis, Wis. - Target/Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Jimmy Vasser and Juan Montoya, who will race on the Nazareth one-mile oval on Sunday, warmed up for the race by testing on Milwaukee's one-mile oval April 23-25.

Montoya, who claimed his first CART victory in the Grand Prix of Long Beach (April 17), continued to impress his team at the test.

"Not only is Juan fast, he is also proving to be a very smart driver," said team manager Mike Hull. "We tested with several set-ups and fuel loads, and he just continues to improve. I think Jimmy's patience and attitude is rubbing off on Juan. Overall, we had good conditions and they both had great tests."

Montoya, who has two CART oval races under his belt (Miami and Japan), enjoyed the chance to test out another of the circuit's mile ovals.

"With the Nazareth race this weekend, it was good to practice on another oval," Montoya said. "This Milwaukee track is much tougher than it looked to me on TV. It took a few laps, but I got the hang of it."

Montoya's veteran teammate Vasser also enjoyed getting back to Milwaukee, where he claimed his second victory of the year in 1998.

"It's always nice to return to a place where you've had success," said Vasser, who also is the defending race winner in Nazareth. "After testing here this week, it just confirms that our cars are in great condition. I'm looking forward to getting back here for the rare in June, but I'm also excited for the chance to defend my title this weekend in Nazareth."
