Salles to finish season, while Barron accepts Penske offer

Dan GurneySince AAR announced that Alex Barron will sit out 3races to give the team a chance to get a "2ndopinion" about its unique chassis/engine/tire package,Alex has received an offer to test from Penske Racing.The very successful test in Michigan led to an offer todrive for Penske Racing at the upcoming U.S. 500 atMichigan.

In light of this development, Dan Gurney has electedto free up Alex Barron and plans to continue withGualter Salles for the rest of the 1999 CART season.

    Dan Gurney:

    "We wish Alex the best of luck in the world. Hehas performed well for us in difficult circumstances andall of us at All American Racers are glad for theopportunity he has earned. We have high hopes thatthis will turn out to be a Win/Win situation for bothteams.

    Alex Barron:

    "I would like to show my appreciation and thankDan Gurney for giving me my first "shot" and forbringing me into the CART Championship series lastyear. Racing Champ cars is where I've always wantedto be.

    Working with Dan and AAR enabled me to learn a lotabout Champ cars in a short time, especially since AARdesigned and builds its own EAGLE chassis. Being partof the development program with Toyota gave mevaluable insight into the characteristics of achassis/power plant combination that I'll be able toput to good use for my future in Champ car racing."
