Marlboro Team Penske to be powered by engine that won last three PPG Cups

American Honda announced today that an engine supply agreement has been reached with Marlboro Team Penske to run Honda engines in their Champ Cars driven by Gil de Ferran and Greg Moore, starting with the 2000 CART FedEx Championship season.

"There is no stronger name in Champ Car racing than Roger Penske," commented Tom Elliott, President of Honda Performance Development. "Penske Racing is the winningest team in FedEx Championship history. Roger Penske defines the pursuit of excellence in racing. Honda is proud to join this tradition and Marlboro Team Penske's commitment to lead Champ Car racing in the new millennium. This new partnership is an exciting combining of experience and shared values. The results should be very exciting."

Honda clinched its third CART Manufacturer's Championship in the last four seasons at the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey on September 12. Honda drivers have won the PPG Cup Driver's Championship for the past three years and a Honda driver is assured of the driver's championship this year. Honda drivers currently hold the top three spots in the championship and have swept the top three positions the past two years.
