Mo Nunn Announces Formation of CART FedEx Team

Mercedes/Reynard package team is based in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana, Morris Nunn, chief technical manager for five CART Champions, announced today the formation of Mo Nunn Racing to compete in the CART FedEx Championship Series beginning with the 2000 season.

The new team has purchased two Reynard chassis' which will be powered by Mercedes-Benz CF Engines. "We will initially operate a one car team and are currently interviewing potential team members and available drivers," said Mo Nunn. "I am looking forward to continuing my success with Reynard and working with Mercedes-Benz and Ilmor Engineering , I think we are going to surprise a lot of people with our competitiveness."

Bruce R. McCaw, president of PacWest Racing Group L.L.C., along with Rod Campbell, a Detroit based marketing executive, have joined as partners in the new venture. "Rod brings a great deal of marketing and management expertise that will be vital to helping the team become competitive. Bruce, one of the country's prominent business leaders, adds a unique and special perspective to the new venture," continued Nunn.

"I have enjoyed my last eight seasons with the Ganassi Team. However when the opportunity arose to field my own team with Bruce and Rod in the CART FedEx series, I couldn't resist the challenge," continues Nunn.

Steve Newey, formerly with Patrick Racing, has come onboard as general manager and Brad Filbey, formerly with Robby Gordon, is team manager. Together they are in the shop at 150 Gasoline Alley setting up operations. The team will be ready for Spring training in February.

Mark Coughlin, of Birmingham, Michigan and president of Sportsmark is directing the team's marketing effort.
