" Everyone on my team did great job in giving me a good race car. The important thing was to put an end to those DNFs. Due to the lack of fuel, I had to lift at the end of the straights. This fuel-saving mode lasted until the last yellow. Then my team told me I could give it all I had, but Alex (Zanardi) was just too far ahead. Š I'm looking forward to the next race at Elkhart Lake We tested very well there and should put in a good fight. I'm not forgetting that even though Alex has an important lead in points for the championship, one bad race for him and a win for me can put me back in the race.

I wanted this win so bad but we didn't have quite enough fuel to run with Alex to the end. But it's another very good finish. We did a good job of getting momentum going for the whole team. To get second here gets the ball rolling for Elkhart Lake, where I think we'll do well. In fact, the next few races should be quite good for us. We were hoping to catch Zanardi by staying out on the last yellow, but we got caught behind a couple of lapped cars and Alex got out ahead of us. This is unbelievable -- after three bad races, this is a good one for the whole team. "

" Today was a huge disappointment for the whole Marlboro Team. We had a really good warm-up session this morning, the car felt better than it had all weekend and we were ready to go racing. At the start of the race when we were coming up over the hill going into turn seven Michael (Andretti) got together with someone, I think it was Pruett, and spun out. Everyone just came to a stop and it was a big scramble with nowhere to go. Parker (Johnstone) moved over to avoid the incident and we came together. Unfortunately it broke the right front suspension and ended our day. Even though Alex (Zanardi) stretched his lead, we're still second in the points. We've had some good results in Elkhart Lake and we've tested well there so hopefully we'll have a better weekend next week. "

" I had a good start but then I was nailed in the back and thrown up in the air. I'm not sure who hit me but I think it was [Scott] Pruett. This race was all about track position and I lost mine at the start. It was tough moving up through the pack while I was sliding all over the place. If I had held my position and moved up from 10th place, we would have been up there and no one would have been able to pass us. We lost our track position at the start and then had to make three stops. I think that, realistically, we had a shot at fifth place. Those extra few points are very valuable. We're out of there (in the point standings). Zanardi has a good cushion. He would have to have some bad luck in the rest of the races to not have the lead by the end of the year. I'm not sure how some of the drivers made it on two stops. I know the Mercedes has good fuel mileage but I'm not sure how the Fords made it. They must have really conserved their fuel. We had some good luck at Road America last year. We're already praying for some good luck again. Second place is still up for grabs. "

" Mark Blundell and I got together as we were going over the top of turn 5. I was trying to get underneath him when he slowed suddenly and I wound up climbing over his left rear tire. We damaged the right side pod and ended up with a right rear flat. Truthfully, I was very lucky to come out of that incident with nothing more than that.

Although I landed on all four wheels (after the incident with Blundell), and after a stop for fresh rubber, there was side pod damage from the collision and we developed a water leak which we realized when the temperatures started to climb. Unfortunately, this put us out of business (on lap 37).

I was really impressed with the options (soft compound). The Goodyear tires were really much better under race conditions." The Marlboro car really worked great today. We keep saying our luck has to change sooner or later and it is frustrating that we keep having DNF's (seven out of 13). I feel like I'm trying to go after my first win.

I think when we got up on top of Blundell's car, we damaged the sidepod. We put a hole in the radiator, and the engine lost all of its water. We were coming up through the field, and then Mark had his problem, and I tried to go underneath him. But I ended up climbing his left rear (tire). We were lucky to come out of it the way we did. The Marlboro car was running real good, but we just lost all the water. "

" We suffered engine-related problems. It was breaking down under load. Unfortunately it cut out at the crest of the hill. Al had no option but to go over me. I'm sorry for Al that it affected his race but there was nothing I could do. It's unfortunate for the team. We worked hard all weekend and thought we had the possibility to walk away with a good result. The good thing is there's a race next weekend. "

" The transmission went. In racing, those things happen, but I hope that one day things go my way. I'm very fortunate that I'm here today after the accident but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be disappointed when we don't win. The entire Kmart/Budweiser team has worked very hard this season under some unusual circumstances and I would like to reward them as well as myself with a win or at least a podium finish. It would have been hard to win today but we definitely had enough for a podium finish. I think we've been really competitive since my comeback. I had confidence that I would come back strong and I think I have. We just need a little luck. A fan gave me a ride back to the transporter. That would have been a long trip back. We will give it another shot at Road America. I like the course and I think we will be strong there. I have some unfinished business at Road America. It's one of the two races I really, really wanted to win most since I've been in CART. The other one was my first race back in Portland this season. "

" We had a great start. I stayed on the outside of the first turn and overtook two or three guys. There was a big mess in front of me and I avoided that. Unfortunately I could keep up with the people I overtook on the straights. That was hurting us. Today my guys were fantastic. The pit stops were excellent. We gained positions on every pit stop. We are working hard to achieve some goals and I think today was very good in doing that. Set-up wise we were really good and we took the MCI Toyota to the end. I was keeping the pace with the top runners in the turns we just didn't have the top-end speed. "

" What a shame. That's the third race in a row we've had electrical troubles and this time it put us out. There was a short in the system that drained the batteries and that's what stopped us. Until then the INDUSVAL-Marlboro Reynard- Ford Cosworth was terrific. We were able to pass cars; we caught up with Michel (Jourdain) and Andre (Ribeiro) and could pull away from Michael (Andretti). This was a good car. I'm glad I was able to race like that. I think I learned a lot and I hope we can have the same type of race next week at Road America. "

" It was going very well. I pulled away at the start and then took it easy to save the tires. I knew Alex (Zanardi) would get close then but I didn't think he could pass me. The car was sliding a little but not really bad. The tires were good for the first 10 laps. That's about what we had hoped for at the start. The crew gave me the sign for 10 laps to go until our first pit stop. I had planned to lean on it harder to open up the gap on Alex before the stop. As I went into Turn 5, I could feel the car set down a bit and, in turn one, the car did it again. Then, on the straightaway towards the 'keyhole'1 it went 'boom' in the rear. I don't know if I ran over something or the tire let go. It's tough to take because we had a very good car today. "

" We had a great start. I followed Michael Andretti past a few cars and gained a few spots right off the bat. Then Michael spun just over the hill and I was tagged from behind. The car went over the curb at a 90-degree angle in fourth gear, and the curb knocked off the lower (front) wing extension. It did something to the steering too because it wasn't quite right after that. We had some understeer to deal with from then on. I thought we were going for a huge ride, but I was able to get back into the field. Unfortunately, it wasn't until pretty far back. "

" It was a very tough, competitive race. It was difficult to maintain your concentration with such a narrow line on the track because of all the marbles. The car was handling very well. It was the best car I have had all weekend. Š We had a pit lane speed violation and I lost third and fourth gear two laps from the end of the race but we survived. Of course we would have liked to have finished higher, but I am very pleased considering our situation in that we haven't really tested here with this car. "

" The car was loose at the beginning of the race, but it wasn't that bad after our first pit stop. It was consistent. It was just a day of problems for us. I was penalized for passing before the green flag at the start and we had a problem with a piece of equipment during our pit stop which set us back a bit. Then we developed a misfire which got consistently worse and ended our day. "

" On the first pit stop I came out of the pits and Greg (Moore) was coming out at speed. I looked in the mirror and I had my rear wheel spinning and when I looked ahead the car was going sideways, and that was it. I was just trying to avoid a collision in the pits and I ended up spinning. Sometimes these kind of things happen, we were both lucky that it wasn't worse. After that the car was behaving wonderfully. The guys did a fantastic job on the second stop. My first set of tires was wearing a bit, but I really think that we had the fastest Goodyear car on the track. It was difficult to overtake because when you got off line the tires tended to pick up a lot of stuff and vibrating and losing a lot of grip. Apart from that they were good. I was trying to pick up positions as fast as I could. I guess a sixth-place finish after what happened isn't all bad. "

" At the start, everybody kind of jammed up when they went over the hill and I couldn't see at first. I was flat out and then saw everybody slow so I hit the brakes and went into the grass. That damaged the rub strips on the end plates of the front wings and that gave me a push for most of the race. They did make an adjustment on the wings on my second stop that helped but it still pushed a lot. It's nice to finish again but I just hope we can start scoring some points.

" We knew we might have a chance with the harder tire today. They were consistent and, as we made changes to the car and the tire pressure, we got quicker and quicker. Our decision looks like a good move. I stalled on my last pit stop and that hurt us. I was concerned about fuel especially since Rio and Milwaukee when we ran out at the end, but we went four laps longer than (Scott) Pruett. Our plan was to just make two pit stops. So we made extremely good mileage. It was great to have Dave (Letterman), Team Rahal co-owner) here this weekend. He has been a big supporter of us. Having him here always gets the team pumped up. I think we'll have a good effort for Road America next weekend."

I was disappointed when I saw Bryan's tire let go. He was determined to race hard today. His day will come. Today does nothing but confirm that he can win races. Sitting on the pole and leading the race was good for Bryan and the team. It was good for us emotionally. "

" We made our first stop a few laps later than everyone else, which looked like it might work out for a while. Once I dropped back into the slower cars, it was hard to make ground. I drove flat out all day, but all I came up with was seventh place. I had a couple of problems. I got a lot of rubber into the car. It got under my feet, and they were sticking to the bottom of the car. And the throttle pedal was really stiff. It made it hard to balance the car with the throttle out of corners, because when the power came in, it came in really fast. We worked hard all weekend, and at least we got a few points.

I had a few problems. There was a bit of confusion on the radio, and my foot kept getting stuck on something in the footwell, so I couldn't move my feet properly. Also, the throttle would stick open when I backed of', so [would come into the corners with too much power. Once pitted (out of sequence under green flag conditions), I dropped hack with the slower cars. I drove hard all day, but seventh was all I could come up with. "

" The car was a real struggle all weekend but today was the toughest. Basically we started with a new car as we made several suspension changes last night. We had a big push the entire race and our wing adjustments didn't help much. The understeer was very difficult in the high- speed turns and the steering was heavy in the slow corners. Then, at the exit of the corners I couldn't put the power down when I wanted. The back end just slipped out. Near the end I had to conserve fuel to make the finish. I short-shifted and went slowly enough to allow Zanardi past, so I wouldn't go around again. I was fortunate since I did run dry on the cool down lap. Thanks to Max for the wild ride back to the pits. It really was a struggle but l'm glad to continue our streak to nine straight completed races since the St. Louis event. "

" Something went wrong on our (third) stop. We didn't get all of the fuel we needed, so I had to come back in. We should have been third, but we had to make that extra stop. We were running in third comfortably - I was just pacing myself. The team's doing a great job setting up the car, and the pit stops are getting better. But there's still something missing. We're making mistakes we shouldn't. I wasn't happy with my third set of tires. The car started bottoming all over the circuit. Obviously, I wasn't as quick as Alex or Greg, but we were good enough for third. "

" Our strategy was to try to run the race on two pit stops. Our on-board computer told us that we were using much more fuel than we actually were. We had to take a gamble and pace ourselves with Vasser, because he was just in front of us and doing similar lap times. We reached the point where we knew we had to refuel and we made a third stop. We're pleased that at the end of the day, we still hung on and got a point. "
