| The 300mm with 2x converter (=600mm )lens is one of my favorites when shooting in pit lane. It allows to get really tight on people's faces and gestures, without being in the way of the other team members. It also allows to isolate the subject from the surroundings due to the extremely low depth of field. In this image, there's only about one inch of depth of field. Those shots are about the only time I use auto focus - because it is faster than I can do it by hand, while the subject isn't moving too fast for it. | |
