RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF FIRESTONE FIREHAWK 500
RACE RESET FOR SUNDAY

Steady rain forced postponement of Saturday'sFirestone Firehawk 500 at Twin Ring Motegi, the fourth event of the 2000FedEx Championship Series.

The race has been rescheduled for Sunday morning, with the command to startengines at 11:30 a.m. and green flag slated for 11:37 a.m. Additional paradelaps may be added as weather conditions warrant.

This marks the second weather-related postponement of a FedEx ChampionshipSeries event this season. The April 9 Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix Presentedby Toyota at Nazareth Speedway was postponed due to snow and rescheduled forSaturday, May 27, thus becoming the event which follows the FirestoneFirehawk 500.

Juan Montoya (Target Toyota Lola) earned the pole position and a FedExChampionship Series championship point Friday with a lap of 212.540 milesper hour.

WHAT'S NOTEWORTHY

* In gratitude to the fans who braved Saturday's inclement weather,CART conducted a second All-Driver Autograph Session following theannouncement of the postponement. The additional session followed Friday'sAll-Driver Autograph Session, a regular feature of race weekends at everyFedEx Championship Series venue.

* Della Penna Motorsports rookie Norberto Fontana (Della PennaVideoMatch Toyota Reynard), who was involved in a single-car accident inFriday's practice session, was released Saturday from Dokkyo UniversityHospital in Mibu-Town, Tochigi after spending the evening for precautionaryobservation. According to Dr. Chris Pinderski of the CART Medical Team,Fontana, whose CAT Scan of his head and neck were negative, is physicallyfine, but will have a follow-up evaluation Tuesday in Indianapolis with Dr.Terry Trammell of the CART Medical Team.
