On Target

When the Target/Chip Ganassi team closed their 1995 seasonlast year at Laguna Seca Raceway, perhaps few realized thesignificance in which owner Chip Ganassi would restructure histhen semi-successful Target operation, reface it for the 1996PPG Cup and actively pursue its title the next season.

It was not that the well-funded Target organizationrequired a complete reform. And perhaps it was not that Ganassiheld the knowledge which to judge the coming season's selectionof engines, chassis' and tires. Likely it was more thecooperation of both, Ganassi's interpretation of technical andteam decisions, and simply, choosing the technical package thathe believed correct for the 1996 PPG Cup.
