Lexington, Ohio (August 11, 2000) - Takuya Kurosawa will miss the rest of the 2000 CART FedEx Season for a lower back problem.

Following his accidents at Nazareth and his most recent 75G hit during qualifying for the Michigan 500, Takuya returned to Japan for a close inspection by his doctor. It is recommended by his doctor that Takuya undergo some minor back surgery followed by a two-month recovery period.

The personable 38-year-old driver is at Mid-Ohio, but will return to Japan later this week where he will remain during his rehabilitation. "This is a very difficult decision," reported Kurosawa, "but it is important to be fully ready for off season testing and next year's schedule."

Takuya's rookie season has been very successful to date. With no oval experience, he has run very competitive times at the Chicago test and Michigan Super Speedway. He became the first Japanese driver to lead a race at Long Beach, which is even more of a testimony to his talent given Long Beach was Takuya's first ever race on a street circuit.

"We have long range plans for Takuya and absolutely support his decision to take care of his back problem," commented team owner Dale Coyne. "We support Takuya 100% and want him to recover as quickly as possible to begin testing for 2001."

Sports Today reports that they are also supportive of Takuya's care and wish him well over the next two months. Replacing Takuya here at Mid-Ohio will be Gualter Salles driving the #19 SPORTS TODAY Lola.
