©2002 SpeedCenter Publishing Indianapolis, Indiana - Target Chip Ganassi Racing announced today that Bruno Junqueira will team with Kenny Brack for the 2002 CART FedEx Championship series. In 2001, his rookie season, Junqueira scored one victory and one pole position while driving for Team Target. Junqueira is looking forward to continuing his quest to earn the team's fifth CART championship and second Indianapolis 500 title. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to drive for Team Target in 2002," Junqueira said. "Last year, I developed a good relationship with my engineers and team members, and I'm looking forward to working with them again. We had some good races, but I was hoping for better results than what we had. I'm looking forward to getting back in the seat of the Target car and winning some more races this year." In his rookie season, Junqueira recorded eight top-10 finishes and placed fifth in his first Indianapolis 500. In addition to his victory in the Motorola 220 (Elkhart Lake, Wis.), Junqueira claimed the pole position in his first oval race, the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix (Nazareth, Pa). In 2000, the 25-year old Brazilian captured the FIA F3000 championship, recording four wins. With one year of Champ Car racing under his belt, Junqueira believes he will find even more success in 2002. "We had some ups and downs last year, that's for sure," Junqueira said. "But I learned a lot about the tracks and how to win in this series. At first, it was difficult for me to adjust. Rolling starts, yellow flags, fuel conservation were all new things to me. I think we could have won a few more races last year, but we had some bad luck. I really believe Kenny and I have a great chance to win races and challenge for the championship." Team Target managing director Mike Hull also believes his second-year driver has the tools it takes to make a run at the 2002 CART title. "Bruno learned a lot from his rookie season last year," Hull said. "He's an extremely talented driver who had some flashes of brilliance last year. He also made some mistakes, which I'm confident he's learned from. Bruno has shown he can run at the front and win races. With one year of experience in CART, he has a chance to compete for the championship this season." Team Target continues its off-season testing schedule at Sebring International Raceway on January 21-23.
