On Oct. 31th at Fontana, the Arciero-Wells Champcar Team announced that Pioneer Electronics will sponsor the #24 Toyota-powered Reynard Championship Car in the 1999 FedEx Championship Series. The #25 car, to be piloted by rookieChristiano da Matta, will carry the familiar MCI colors, although for the next season, the sponsorship has changed t MCI WorldCom, due to a merger of the two telecom companies. Pioneer is a major electronics and consumer entertainment company, employing more than 20,000 people worldwide, producing over$4.2 billion in yearly sales. The company becomes the newest sponsor in the FedEx Championship Series. Da Matta, who replaces Robby Gordon in the #24 car, will team up with 9-year CART veteran Scott Pruett for his rookie season in CART. The talented young Brazilian is the 1998 PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Champion. Both 1999 cars were presented to the media at Fontana.
