SpeedCenter Fantasy League Examples

In case the rules sounded Chinese to you, we have provided a brief example how this league might actually unfold.

Step 1: Driver Selection

In this example, our example player chooses a team by the name "Sample Racers" and decides to hire Scott Pruett and Max Papis, plus buy 1 spare Ford Engine, expecting that during the first half of the season (before the short engine sale at about mid season), a replacement for Max may be needed. Note: any engines bought and not used at the end of the season can not be sold back to boost the final budget numbers.

Note: each driver is automatically purchased with 1 chassis and 1 engine. You do not need to specify these parts. Only additional spare parts you wish to buy at pre-season discount need to be selected in our signup form. Many signups in 1997 went over-budget assuming they had to buy chassisand engine for each driver, while we automatically add these items to the bill (see driver price list - "Startup Total" - that's what you need to budget for each driver for a functional team without spare parts). You have $7,000,000 available to set up your two car team at the beginning of the season.

Initial Cost for Team "Sample Racers"

Driver Cost Chassis Engine Spare Engine Total
Pruett $2,500,000 $510,000 $84,000 $0 $3,094,000
Papis $2,750,000 $510,000 $90,000 $90,000 $3,440,000
Total         $6,534,000

After this initial expense, Team "Sample Racers" will be listed at a budget total of $466,000 before going into the first race of the season. From now on the results reported by Omega Swiss timing will be used to calculate how the team progresses through the season. For the sake of this example, we will assume a few race results to show how the unfolding of the FedEx Championship Series determines the budget of Team "Sample Racers.

Race #1 at Homestead and it's Financial Impact

Pruett finishes 7th, Papis DNF's due to Electrical Problems

For Pruett's 7th place finish, the team earns $60,000. The DNF of Papis results in $0 earnings for the second driver. There is no deduction either - all engines and chassis of the team are in working order. Total budget for the team after Race #1 is $526,000.

Race #2 in Japan and the cash flow stops

Pruett DNF's due to "CONTACT", Papis DNF's due to "ENGINE"

No money is earned, due to both driver's reporting a DNF. Pruett's Contact stars a counter in our scoring system - but doesn't cost the team anything at this point. If Pruett never reports a "CONTACT" in any other race this season, the team doesn't need to replace the Chassis. At this time there is no cost to the team. Papis' blown engine subtracts the spare Ford that was bought for him at the beginning of the season. The counter for available engines for both drivers are now down to just one each - next time an engine fails, the team will get billed. Current Budget for the team after Race #2 is still $526,000.

Race #3 at Long Beach and how it affects our sample team budget

Pruett sits on the pole, leads the most laps and finishes 2nd, Papis finishes 5th

A good day for the team - no expenses will be billed (chassis and engines all ok during the race). Pruett earns $10,000 for the Pole, another $10,000 for Most Laps Led, as well as $160,000 for second. Papis earns $100,000 for 5th. The team's budget increases after Race #3 to $806,000.

Race #4 in Nazareth and the financial impact of a bad weekend

Pruett DNF's due to "CONTACT" and Papis finishes 18th

The Second "CONTACT" for Pruett costs the team a new Reynard Chassis. None was bought in advance, so the team is billed $850,000 for a new chassis. Papis runs slow and finishes a few laps down - but being reported as "Running" the team earns $4,000 for his finish. The team's budget decreases after Race #4 by $846,000 to $-40,000. For Race #5, we would also bill an interest charnge on this amount of 1%.

etc, etc...
